We are the Gloucester Diamonds. Let us entertain you!
Gloucester Diamonds has been a well-known name in the county folk scene for several decades. The latest line-up includes the original founder member, Rod Penlington, on guitar, concertina and vocals, Debra Hannis on flute and vocals, Paul Carter and Robin Burton on vocals.
Rod has been singing for over forty years and has a powerful, melodic voice whether singing sea shanties, traditional and contemporary ballads or humorous songs. Rod has been playing with the Bees Knees Ceilidh Band for many years, and now with the newly revived Gloucester Diamonds.
Debra is an up and coming young singer songwriter and flautist. Prior to joining the Diamonds, Deb sang with the shanty group, the Two Anchors.
Paul has a long experience in singing with the performance group, the Rough Diamonds.
Robin is a well known solo folk singer around the county folk clubs.
The current line-up first got together when Paul and Robin went into the Cross Keys pub during the Gloucester Tall Ships Festival in 2015 and met Rod.
“Do you know where we can sing some Shanties?” they asked Rod.
The rest is history.
